Tips to Make Friends Around Your New Apartment

You’ve found the perfect apartment nestled in the ideal community. Maybe you even get to wake up to birds chirping outside of your window. Even though the moving process may have been stressful, you have unpacked all of your things and now you want to celebrate being in your new home, but you remember that all of your friends are in your old city. Moving shouldn’t have to equate to loneliness. Luckily for you, we have gathered some tips to help you make friends in your new city. Give them a try, and you might find your next best friend.

1. Lose Your Shell

Hermit crabs are cute for a minute, but eventually, they need to migrate around to find necessary things like food and new shelter. You, too, need to move around, but you should leave your shell at home. Going out in your new community is a great way to meet people. Explore new restaurants and coffee shops or bookstores without shielding yourself from possible new connections. Take your headphones out and don’t sit in the corner. You’ll be inviting your friends over to your new apartment in no time.

2. Get a New Job

Lots of people are forced to relocate because of their job. Building friendships at work is a great way to get settled in a new community. Since people usually live around where they work, co-workers can show you the ropes. They’ll know the ins and outs of the city and give you useful tips on where to eat, shop, and play around the town. Who knows, maybe they live in the same Kaftan Community as you. Before you know it, you’ll be having taco Tuesdays in your new apartment.

3. Join a Local Gym or Club

Getting involved in an organization is a great way to meet people with similar interests as you. If you’re really into fitness, a local gym might be a place you fit in. Find book clubs if that’s your thing. Cities have groups for everything under the sun these days. Even though your new apartment is lovely, step outside of it and do something you enjoy while making friends along the way.

If you are looking for a fresh start in a new city, Kaftan Communities is here to help you find your perfect apartment in one of our 22 locations throughout Metro Detroit.
