Our Favorite Interior Design Trends for Apartments

Recently, Vogue magazine released an article detailing the 12 most popular interior design trends at the moment. While this article was written specifically with homeowners in mind, there are several trends that can easily be applied to apartments, as well. Here are some of our favorites.

Lived-In Interiors

People, Vogue explains, are being a lot more intentional overall with how they decorate their spaces. They suggest that “one way to achieve lived-in authenticity is to let your daily rituals inform your interiors.” In other words, prioritize décor that is actually functional and reflective of how you live in a space.

For people who live in an apartment, where space is limited, this is a great approach.

Anti-Algorithm

A focus on authenticity and individuality continues through the rest of the article. “The goal is no longer to create a room that performs well online,” Sarah Lederman, interior designer, is quoted as saying. “It’s to create one that feels meaningful to live in and reflective of the people who call it home.”

We love this trend, because it means that a space can be decorated at any budget — as long as it’s what the owner wants.

Textile Wall Hangings

Tapestries are becoming more popular in homes due to their character and addition of texture in a space. Best of all, they can be found anywhere — Vogue encourages readers to check auctions, or even working with what you already have. “Consider hanging a decorative rug, or repurposing vintage fabric.”

For apartment owners, hanging any art is a simple interior decorating trick that doesn’t require a major overhaul of the space. And there are plenty of places to discover these great additions to your rooms.

Occasional Sofas

These smaller sofas, usually placed in a hallway or bedroom, are a great way to add liveliness to a space. “With a renewed appetite for playful, often impractical textiles, the occasional sofa offers a low-stakes way to scratch the itch for something bold without overhauling the main family sofa.”

Since these aren’t the size of regular sofas, they can be an ideal addition to an apartment.

These are just some of the trends that experts are seeing, and of course not all of them will be practical for you and your space. But if you’re considering sprucing up your apartment with new elements, these trends can be a great place to start brainstorming.
