As we head into the final quarter of the year, many of us are starting to think about celebrations — from spooky Halloween get-togethers to grateful Thanksgiving gatherings. While it can be exciting to have friends and family over for special events, living in an apartment requires some extra consideration. Here are some things you’ll want to do before hosting a party in your apartment.
Clear High-Traffic Areas
Make sure that there’s plenty of room for foot traffic, especially at your entrance and in living and kitchen spaces. Moving some items to more private spaces, like a bedroom, can help a space feel easier to navigate. Don’t leave this decluttering to the day-of — start considering it in advance, and then you won’t have to rush!
Keep Clutter to a Minimum
Have a designated space for guest shoes, coats, and bags. Depending on how many people you’ll be having over, you may want to consider having guests drop their coats and bags off in a bedroom instead. This will help keep your main spaces from feeling too crowded as guests arrive. A well-cleaned closet, prepared ahead of time, can also serve this purpose very effectively.
Open Up Space
Move seating and furniture to the edges of the main living areas as much as possible, opening up the room for people to gather. Make sure that there is enough room for everyone to sit and talk with each other. If you have a balcony or patio, utilize that as well to offer more room for people to gather.
Consider Lighting
Lighting makes a huge difference in how small or large a space feels. Bring in extra lamps or lights from other rooms to the main spaces to brighten up an area. Or, for a more cozy atmosphere, consider warmer bulbs or fairy lights.
Be Considerate of Your Neighbors
Remember, you do still live in an apartment. Keep noise to a minimum (especially at night), don’t play music too loud, and refrain from getting too rowdy. Having fun is encouraged, but making life more difficult for the people around you is not.
