Whether you’re moving out for the first time or simply changing locations, moving into a new apartment is always a signal of an exciting life change. That process, however, can also be stressful and time-consuming, especially if not planned for properly. Thankfully, there are some simple things you can do to make move-in day an easier, more streamlined experience.
Declutter in advance
The less you own, the easier move-in day will go. Ahead of a move is a great time to go through and get rid of things like old clothes, books, or whatever you don’t use anymore. Use the move as a chance to clean your slate and start over more mindfully, taking only the things you really need or want to keep.
Pack Thoughtfully
Chances are, you won’t want to unpack all at once. So you should give some consideration as to what you’ll need as soon as you move in. Things like toiletries, food and clothing should be easy to find and sort through, so that you’re not digging through boxes for what you need during your those first weeks in your new space.
Set Up Utilities
Make sure you’ve set up your electric, water, internet, and any other utilities before you move in. This will ensure that you aren’t caught by any surprise complications on move-in day. These could delay or negatively impact your ability to live comfortably.
Only buy essentials
You might be tempted to buy everything at once, but this can be costly and also difficult to move in on the same day. Especially when it comes to furniture, start only with what you really need, and then add items slowly, using estate sales and thrift stores if you need to be more budget-conscious.
